Idaho nuclear lab says probing radiological exposure incident (Reuters)

SALMON, Idaho (Reuters) ? The Idaho National Laboratory, a U.S. Energy Department nuclear research site in eastern Idaho, said on Tuesday it was investigating a "radiological exposure incident" reported at the facility.

A statement issued by officials at the lab, which sprawls over 890 square miles of high desert, said that "based on the information obtained so far, there is no risk to the public."

The mishap occurred within a facility at the lab called the "material and fuels complex," which is used for remotely handling, processing and examining spent nuclear fuel, irradiated materials and radioactive waste. The facility is situated within 50 miles of the city of Idaho Falls.
